If you grew up in the Philippines in the 90s, there is a big chance Songhits was part of your everyday life.
Before lyric websites, before streaming apps, before playlists, there was Songhits. You bought it with allowance money, borrowed it from classmates, or shared one copy during recess. Pages were folded. Covers were torn. Names were written inside so it would come back to you. Sometimes it did. Sometimes it never did.
This video looks back at the routines many of us shared growing up Filipino in the 90s.
Watching oonang heerit before school.
Waiting for ernee bahron during storms and hoping for class suspension.
Coming home to TV, music, and small habits that quietly shaped our childhood.
Songhits mattered because Filipinos love to sing. We sang before we learned how to read properly. We memorized theme songs, radio hits, and MTV countdown tracks without trying. Songhits gave us the words so we could sing together, in classrooms, at home, and later on, in karaoke rooms.
This is a story about growing up Filipino.
The waiting.
The music.
The shared moments that stayed with us.
If this feels familiar, you are not alone.
