Turns out I've made this recipe before on the channel... totally forgot.
Welcome back to Sunday Morning and the Old Cookbook Show!
Today we're flipping through a Canadian classic: A Guide to Good Cooking, published in 1932 by the Lake of the Woods Milling Company—the makers of Five Roses Flour. This iconic cookbook helped generations of Canadian home bakers and came complete with coupons, community recipes, and a whole lot of history.
We're making a unique quick bread recipe: Orange Honey Bread, which blends boiled orange peel with rich honey (including a bit of buckwheat honey for depth) to create something between a soda bread and a fruit loaf. It's one of those recipes that sounds unusual but turns out surprisingly delicious—though maybe not one you'd bake every week.
Along the way, we talk about the changing use of ingredients like baking soda, food processors vs. food choppers, and how recipes evolved from yeasted loaves to quick breads. If you love vintage recipes, Canadian culinary history, or just good old-fashioned baking with a story, you’re in the right place.

🍯 And if you want to shortcut the process, yes—you can probably just use marmalade.
