Senior NC Leader and Former Minister Qamar Ali Akhoon Passes Away; LG, CM, Assembly and LAHDC Pay Rich Tributes
Senior National Conference leader, former Cabinet Minister and the first Chief Executive Councillor of LAHDC Kargil, Qamar Ali Akhoon, passed away today, triggering widespread grief across Ladakh UT and the UT of Jammu and Kashmir.
Widely regarded as one of the most dedicated and committed political leader of Kargil district, Qamar Ali Akhoon remained closely connected with the grassroots throughout his long political journey. Known for his simplicity, calm demeanor and tireless organizational work, he played a pivotal role in development of the region. He was the elder brother of the current CEC, LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon.
The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavendar Gupta expressed deep sorrow over his demise. In his condolence message, the LG said he was deeply saddened by the passing of Qamar Ali Akhoon and noted that his dedicated public service and contributions to the common people will always be remembered with respect. He conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and admirers.
The Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah also expressed profound grief, remembering him as a committed public figure who served the people with humility and dedication. The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly paid rich tributes to the departed leader after his demise was announced in the House.
Meanwhile, LAHDC Kargil observed a two-minute silence and convened a condolence meeting led by Acting CEC Kacho Mohd Feroz to pay homage to the veteran leader.
Condolences poured in from Member of Parliament Ladakh Haji Hanifa Jan, Vice President BJP Ladakh Haji Anayat Ali, Chairman Haj Committee Ladakh Mohd Ali Majaz, social activist Sajjad Kargili and Chief Secretary UT Ladakh Ashish Kundra.
Religious organizations including Anjuman Jamiat Ulama Isna Ashriya Kargil, Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust Kargil, Anjuman e Moin Ul Islam Leh, Anjuman Shabe Zaman Kargil and Ladakh Buddhist Association Leh, along with various political parties and social groups across Kargil and Leh, also condoled his demise, terming it a great loss to the political and social fabric of the region.
His passing marks the end of an era in Kargil’s political landscape, and he is being remembered as a seasoned leader who dedicated his life to public service and the welfare of the people.
