Millions of Catholics have descended on Mexico City’s Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe to honor Mexico’s patron saint. Pilgrims from across the country arrived on foot, some even on their knees, bringing prayers, petitions, and thanks for miracles in one of the world’s largest religious gatherings.
By early Friday, 11.7 million pilgrims had arrived, with over 13 million expected through December 12. The Basilica stands at the site where the Virgin Mary is believed to have appeared in 1531, sparking Mexico’s conversion to Catholicism.
