The Knesset recess: A fresh look

Continuity of parliamentary work is maintained during the Knesset recess. In the course of the recess, the Knesset committees continue their work according to predetermined rules, and the Knesset Plenum can be convened to debate important issues on the agenda and to pass bills at the request of the Government.

The Knesset Plenum can be convened during the recess at the request of the Government or at the demand of at least 25 Members of Knesset. The Knesset can also be dissolved during the recess, on condition that a motion to express no-confidence in the Government was submitted with the signatures of at least 61 Members of Knesset.

In accordance with a decision by the House Committee prior to the recess, the committees convene during the recess to deliberate on various issues and to approve bills for the different readings. The Speaker of the Knesset may allow a committee to hold meetings during the recess in special cases (at the request of the Government, the committee chair or one third of the committee’s members).
