Originally built as a squatter settlement in the 1950s, this colorful neighborhood was transformed in the 2000s into a creative hub full of murals, sculptures, exhibitions, and art installations. Walking through its narrow streets is like stepping into a living art gallery, with surprises at every corner. If there’s one major lesson I learned from Korean graphic design, it’s to have fun and be bold! 🎨 Unlike the minimalist, Scandinavian-inspired designs popular in Europe, Korean brands fully embrace color, characters, and energetic typography. From playful posters to unique product packaging, there’s a strong sense of youthfulness, creativity, and trendiness that makes Korean design stand out.

This bold approach comes from Korea’s rich artistic history, including Hangul (Korean alphabet), which is geometric, simple, and perfect for modern designs. East Asian pop culture, Kawaii aesthetics, and traditional Korean art all contribute to the vibrant and expressive branding seen across the country.

Stationery, Art Shops & The Power of Illustration

Walking through the streets, I was amazed at how valued and celebrated art is in Korea.
