Описание: In the village of Chidik in Punjab’s Moga district, a case has come to light involving the murder of a young man at an illegal drug de-addiction centre operating under the guise of a marriage palace. Shockingly, this centre is located barely 500 metres from the local police station. Police claim that the centre had been shut for a long time, but the victim’s family stated that the deceased had been undergoing treatment there since July 4 and was addicted only to alcohol, not to any other drugs. Based on the victim’s family’s statements, police have registered a murder case against the marriage palace owner and his son. The father has been arrested while the son remains at large.

The deceased, Jaspal Singh’s wife Mandeep Kaur, and another relative, Aman, stated that Jaspal was addicted to alcohol. On July 4, they contacted the centre for help, and its staff came to their home to take him away. When Mandeep Kaur once went to meet him, the staff did not allow her to see him. Today, when she returned with other relatives to bring Jaspal home, they were first told that he had run away, then that a relative had taken him away. When the family pressed harder, they were told Jaspal was inside and could be seen. Upon entering the hall, they found his body lying there. The family also said the centre had charged them ₹20,000 in cash as treatment fees.

Upon learning of the incident, DSP City Gurpreet Singh arrived at the scene. However, Chidik Police Station in-charge SI Gurpal Singh stated that a de-addiction centre once operated there but its licence had expired, so it was no longer officially running. Regarding the murder, he confirmed that based on the victim’s family’s statements, the owner Inderjit and his son have been booked for murder. The father has been arrested while the son is absconding and will be arrested soon. The deceased, aged 37, leaves behind two sons.
