A pen that writes everywhere with development cost in the millions, used by NASA in space.. Can be had by you for $10 or so. The original pressurized ink pens, Fisher Space Pens can write upside-down, under water, over grease, and below freezing.
As part of my #actuallytested series on stationery and pens - I see if it lives up to the hype and how long can you expect it to last for.

AG7 - ORIGINAL ASTRONAUT SPACE PEN

Composition: Brass
Color: Chrome
Length: 5.06"
Width: .375"
Weight: 1oz.
Cartridge: Fisher Pressurized PR4, Black Ink, Medium Point

The AG7 is the original Fisher Space Pen that was used on the Apollo 7 space mission in 1968 after 2 years of rigorous testing by NASA, and it has been used on all manned space flights since then. The overall design and construction of this pen has not changed in over 50 years, and the pen you buy today will be the same as the one taken to the moon back in 1969.
The AG7 is made from solid brass with an extremely hard chrome plating; it is a heavy pen, with the weight resting reassuringly in your hand as you write. It has a very positive and substantial feeling click mechanism, with a plunger on the top for extending the refill, as well as a unique side release button to retract it. Its special design helps to ensure that you will always remember to retract the point before you slide it back into your pocket.
Our Astronaut Pens are attractively packaged in heavy duty gift boxes with flock lining and each comes with a pamphlet describing the history of the Fisher Space Pen. All AG7s are constructed with brass and steel components of the highest quality, and all are proudly made in the USA!

In manufacturing, it is not often that a design becomes instantly classic or iconic. It takes a lot of time, appreciation by its peers, and a track record of proven success to show a design’s true place historically within its respective category. The Bullet Pen has become not only an iconic design for Fisher Space Pen Co., but an example of industrial art itself, which is why this pen design is still held in the permanent collection of the New York Museum of Modern Art.
When closed, the Bullet Space Pen is the perfect size to carry in your wallet, pocket, purse, car glove box, organizer or toolbox. When opened it's a full-sized, evenly balanced writing instrument.
Each Bullet Space Pen will write upside down - at any angle, under water, through grease, in extreme temperatures (-30 to +250 degrees F), on almost any surface, three times longer than the average pen, and of course in the gravity free vacuum of space.
The original Bullet Space Pen was conceived in July of 1948 by Paul Fisher, who was soon machining a new pen design shaped from solid aluminum. This became our first Fisher ball point pen, the #400 Bullet Pen, and arguably the most popular pen of the twentieth century.
Cited as an outstanding example of industrial art, the classic design of the Fisher Bullet Pen has a place in the permanent collection in the New York Museum of Modern Art. The Bullet's timeless styling has been the topic of many art books and magazine articles.
