The endocannabinoid system is a the largest receptor system in the body located in every system of the body. These receptors, the CB1 and CB2 receptors, are found at the intersection of the body's various systems, allowing communication and coordination between various cell types. They are are endogenous lipid-based neurotransmitters that bind to cannabinoid receptors, and cannabinoid receptors are expressed all throughout the mammalian central nervous system and peripheral nervous system.
