In this video, we show how we use ponds and berms to conserve water in North Central Texas.
North Central Texas is not an dry region, but the rainfall is very unevenly distributed throughout the year. In order to store water when it is plentiful, we are turning to permaculture design. Permaculture is a system of design that mimics natural ecosystems. One of the key principles of permaculture is to use water wisely.
One way to store water in North Central Texas is to dig ponds where water naturally accumulates. These ponds can be used to store rainwater, which can then be used for irrigation and duck ponds. They can also help to improve water quality by reducing runoff and sediment pollution.
Together with berms, raised mounds of earth, we use ponds to slow down and redirect water. This creates microclimates, which helps to improve plant growth.
We show how we select the right location to dig and pond and how we go abouts to dig ponds. We talk about the mistakes we made digging our first pond and how to fix it.
By the end of this video, you will have a better understanding of how ponds and berms can be used to conserve water in North Central Texas. You will also learn about the challenges of using these methods, and you will be able to make an informed decision about whether or not ponds and berms are right for your property.
