The ratio of the built-up area of all floor on a plot to the area of the total plot is a regulation followed in the development control norms of many cities.

FSI = ( Area of All Floor/Total Area of Plot). it is generally between 1 to 4.

FSI in India’s Major Cities:
1. Delhi - 1.2 to 3.5
2. Mumbai - 1.33 to 1.83
3. Kolkata - 1.5 to 2.5
4. Chennai -  FSI limit of 1.5 for ordinary residential buildings and 2 for high rise buildings.
5. Ahmadabad - 1.2 to 1.8
6. Bangalore - 1.75 to 2.35
7. Hyderabad - 1.5 to 2.5
8. Gurgaon - 1 to 1.5
9. Noida – 2.75 to 4
10. Pune – 1.5 to 2.5
