In this video I perform a running-in oil change on my 2020 VW Golf R Estate. This was a common procedure on cars many years ago but manufacturers (and more specifically their marketing departments) decided it was too much hassle for the first owners/new car buyers so canned it (bit like how they decided 10k or 1 year service intervals were hassle too and doubled them with the much derided 'long life' service intervals).
The process shown applies regardless of the mileage you do the oil change at so if you would like to do one, this is the video for you.
There are many varied cars on the MQB platform (Golf 7/8 platform) with EA888 Gen 3 engines (4 cylinder, petrol, 1.8 or 2.8) and this guide should apply to virtually all of them.
Tools needed:
32mm socket for oil filter housing and some sort of ratchet driver
Medium cross head screwdriver for sump plug
Flat blade screwdriver to remove filter housing o-ring
Torque wrench with 25nm setting (not really essential)
Something to drain the old oil into
Funnel for pouring oil into engine
A way of safely lifting the car up to work on it
Parts need:
Oil filter (approx £12 from VW) 06L 115 562 B
Sump plug (approx £6 from VW)
6L of oil (in this case Quantum Longlife III VW 504 00 and 507 00 approved - approx £35 from VW)
The cavity wax from Eurocarparts is made by Normfest, their part number is NOR2892997 (400ml)
