A major controversy has erupted in Harabhanga block of Boudh district after serious Odia spelling mistakes were found on an official government banner. While the state government has allocated ₹374 crore in the budget for promotion of Odia Asmita, the banner reportedly carried incorrect spelling of common Odia words and even the Chief Minister’s name.

The mistake triggered sharp reactions from political leaders and locals. BJD leader Abakash Sahu criticized the administration and symbolically gifted “Madhubarnabodh” books to officials, questioning their commitment to the mother tongue.

The issue has sparked a larger debate — is promoting Odia language only limited to budget announcements, or should proper implementation and respect start from administrative levels?
