"First ever gas collection from active volcano plume" is an oversimplification. It should be: first ever uncontaminated CO2 sample collection from an active plume by UAS. People have stood on mountain tops with gas collection bags hoping for the plume to come the right way and SO4 has been sampled by UAS. SO4 aerosol plumes are visible whereas CO2 plumes are invisible. There have been CO2 measurements taken by petrol driven piloted aircraft, but the organic CO2 emissions of the engines contaminate the isotope ratios in which we are interested.
