This is a recording of a presentation originally streamed for the virtual annual meeting of the Society of Integrative and Comparative Biology (SICB) 2021. This talk was part of Symposium S10: Metachronal coordination of multiple appendages for swimming and pumping.
In this presentation, MBARI researcher Joost Daniels presents results of a study of the swimming mechanics of the midwater polychaete Tomopteris. These worms have evolved a unique way to propel themselves through the water column, combining paddling of their many appendages with an undulating body. These results will be included in an upcoming article in the journal of Integrative and Comparative Biology (ICB).
This work is a collaboration of the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute and the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History.
