I picked up the Contax 167MT right before a trip to the Pacific Northwest. This would be an excellent opportunity to review this camera in the field. This would be my primary camera for about a week as we traveled across Oregon and up the coast to the Olympic Peninsula in Washington. The Contax 167MT proved to be an excellent camera that I could really rely on. I quickly became comfortable relying on the light meter and mostly shot in Av Aperture Priority mode. This is something I don’t even do with my modern Fujifilm mirrorless cameras.
The Contax 167MT is a fantastic camera with professional features, all in a sleek, compact body that isn’t a hassle to carry with you everyday. This will be my primary 35mm film camera for some time. I think eventually, I will get another Contax SLR camera. They seem to have a bad reputation of being unreliable, but they are surprisingly affordable. Many do have a ‘mirror slip’ issue, which my camera had this problem as well. I was able to permanently fix the mirror slip very easily with ordinary household items (heat gun or blowdryer & Gorilla Super Glue).
Additional Note
Shi Shi Beach and Cape Flattery are on the Makah Tribe’s Reservation. They have been the caretakers of these lands since time immemorial. They have done an excellent job at preserving and protecting this land. To access these places, you’ll need to get a Recreation Pass from their tribe, they are very affordable, priced at $25 and they last a full year. Please be respectful if you go to these amazing places and follow the ‘Leave No Trace’ principles.
I rescanned all my film negatives with my Fujifilm camera and macro lens: Carl Zeiss Marko-Planar T* 100mm f/2.8. I used Negative Lab Pro to convert the negatives in Lightroom Classic.
