“It takes a village to grow a child,” this very famous African proverb encapsulates the ethos that is felt at Alperton Community school where the engagement and collaboration of the community is necessary and vital to the success of every student.
At Alperton, we fundamentally believe that a strong partnership between the home and school is vital to establish and embed the roots for every student to thrive. As a result, the themes of Pastoral, Community and Inclusion are the golden thread and are placed at the core of everything that we do.
You will experience the different ways in which cultures are celebrated within the curriculum and how they are interwoven within the whole school ethos. You will witness how parents and externals are engaged and collaborate with us as partners in order to create a community where education is not just the responsibility of those in the school. It is our belief that every child from every background is unique, important and matters.
5 STEPS TO REPLICATE OUR PRACTICE
1. How do you work with and engage the parents?
The audience will be introduced to the different ways in which Alperton successfully
engages parents into the school community. They will acknowledge that this partnership is vital and mutually beneficial from the onset in order to help the achievement of each student. They will also be given tips and strategies on how to do this successfully in order to establish an agreement between the home and the school.
2. How to create successful multicultural communities where students’ identities are celebrated.
The audience will be able to experience the different ways in which cultures are celebrated within the curriculum and how they are interwoven within the whole school ethos. They will witness how Parents and externals are engaged and collaborated with as partners in order to create a community where education is not just the responsibility of those in the school. It is our belief that every child from every background is unique, important and matters.
3. How to create an inclusive school
The audience will be introduced to the massive programme of Inclusion that is offered at Alperton. They will acknowledge how important this focus is in order to develop and support the needs of each individual in order to build a harmonious multicultural community. They will be taken through the different interventions and programmes that are delivered in collaboration with a curriculum that is inspiring and aspirational.
4. How to develop a Pastoral programme that supports the personal development of each individual.
The audience will acknowledge why an exceptional Pastoral provision is vital in a school like Alperton and the breath of the support that is on offer. They will acknowledge how important this focus is in order to support the personal development of each young person so that the students have the tools to thrive in any community within and beyond their school gates.
5. How to build relationships within your school and with the community. The audience will be introduced to the different ways in which Alperton highlights the significance of relationship building within and outside the school community. This includes school to school, peer to peer as well developing relationships within the local context and industry. They will also witness why relationship building is vital, especially within an ever changing educational landscape.
