Miniseries Monday: Now and then we'll circle back to the Golden Era of the miniseries...multi-part stories, packed with your favorite stars, often based on a best-seller. This 1977 example was a 12-and-a-half hour extravaganza that aired over six consecutive nights. It was based on a novel by John Erlichman that was significantly embellished and expanded to fill all that screen time. Viewers got to play along to guess who the 'real' people were that the fictional characters were based on (it wasn't that difficult). The series garnered several Emmy nominations, with Robert Vaughn winning for Supporting Actor (and Stefanie Powers overlooked entirely...how did that happen?). The theme is by Dominic Frontiere ('Stony Burke', 'Outer Limits').
