In this episode of our Take a Minute: Local Heritage series, funded by National Lottery Heritage Fund Scotland, Paul Murdoch explores the Dumbarton Municipal Building.
Set in the heart of Dumbarton on the site of a former shipyard, the building itself is a magnificent example of Scottish baronial architecture. But the building is not the only attraction in the grounds.
Several monuments tell the stories of Dumbarton’s past. Among other things, you can see three iron cannons, captured during a colonial war in Burma, and the College Bow, an arch that is the sole survivor of a medieval church that once stood on the site.
