Made for the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V in 1536, this helmet formed part of the palm frond armour. It was made to celebrate Charles’ military victories campaigning in North Africa.
The helmet, created in the classical style was meant to reinforce the Emperor’s reputation as the new Scipio Africanus, the famous Roman general who had defeated Hannibal some 1700 years earlier.
