At the time of these interviews, the investigation remained confidential, and the information we learned from the two trials was not publicly available. It was not publicly known that on the day of the murder, Wendi Adelson had driven past the crime scene and purchased Bulliet Bourbon. Wendi Adelson's lawyer had issued a public statement saying that she was "cooperating with police." TPD had not yet reported publicly that Wendi Adelson, after her initial interrogation, had actually had hung up on Investigator Isom and lawyered up when he tried to reach out to her for more information. Wendi provided limited cooperation thereafter under the protection of her attorney, and testified under limited "use" immunity.

FSU Law Professor Dan Markel was murdered in July of 2014.
It took investigators almost two years to follow the evidence and to identify the suspects, and several more years for the State to charge Charles Adelson. By 2016, there were two suspects who carried out the hit - Luis Rivera and shooter Sigfredo Garcia. Luis was in federal prison on unrelated charges.
Investigators determined that the murder was connected to Dan Markel's divorce, and suspected that one or more people in his ex-wife's family ordered the hit.
