Hello neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer and today we're taking a look and installing the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver on a 2024 Audi Q5. Now this is what your hitch is gonna look like when it's installed on your Audi and it's a super clean look because it utilizes the open spot that was already there in the fascia. And the only thing that you're gonna see visible is gonna be the receiver tube opening and safety chains 'cause the rest of the hitch is bolted up behind the bumper beam. So really you're getting the best of all worlds, the usability of your hitch, but also a clean look in the process. And the etrailer hitch is really nice. It's got a matte black powder coat finish and that really helps prevent any chipping and scratching long term.

They seem to hold up really well compared to some of the other ones out on the market. Now this is a two inch by two inch receiver tube opening, which is kind of the standard size when it comes to a trailer hitch. And that means you're gonna have tons of accessories to choose, whether it be a ball mount, bike rack, or cargo carrier as this is kind of the standard size. Now all of your accessories are gonna stay in place with a five eighths pin and clip. Now this is not included with the hitch, but a lot of times when you pick up accessories they'll have those included.

If you plan on leaving accessories on the back of your Audi, you might wanna look at a locking pin and clip. That's a good deterrent. You can lock that in place and know that no one's just gonna be able to walk away with your accessories. (hook clinks) Your rolled style safety chain loop there is gonna be great for hooking up a standard S-Hook or even a larger Clevis style if you plan on pulling a trailer. And speaking of that, let's talk about capacities.

This is a pretty heavy duty hitch. You get really good capacities out of it and with a gross trailer weight rating, it's gonna be 5,000 pounds. And that's the weight of the trailer plus the accessories loaded onto it. And then your tongue weight is solid too at 750 pounds. And that's gonna be the downward pressure that's put on the inside of the receiver tube opening.

So bike racks, cargo carriers, anything that's suspended is gonna fall into that category. With 750 pounds you can get a four bike bike rack loaded up or a cargo carrier loaded up and I'm not too worried that you would ever really go over those capacities. As far as the gross trailer weight rating though, that's a really solid number, that's a decent sized trailer. But you're gonna want to check the vehicle's owner's manual to see what it's capable of towing. Just because a hitch is rated for that doesn't mean that the vehicle is, and you wanna make sure that you're not gonna be overloading the vehicle and you'll be safe during your towing. So with that in mind, take the lowest capacity, whether it be the vehicle, the hitch, or any of your accessories that you'll be using to tow and take the lowest number so you stay safe. Now when choosing some folding accessories, cargo carriers and bike racks that stow in a vertical position, you wanna make sure that it's gonna work with this vehicle. Sometimes you'll run into, you know, making contact with the fascia before it can fold. I'm not too worried with this one. Measuring from the center of our hitch pin hole to the furthest point of our fascia, it's about two and a half inches. So, really I don't worry that you're gonna have any issues there. Just keep in mind that you're probably not gonna be able to open up your hatch with those stowed up, but you just pull that down and then you'll get full access. As far as ground clearance, from the top of the receiver tube opening to the ground, it's coming in at 14 inches. And that's gonna be important for not only choosing accessories so they don't bottom out, but mostly for a ball mount. You can measure from the ground to the top of the coupler of your trailer when it's level, take that number and compare it with the 14 inches and then you can determine the rise or drop necessary to get everything level while towing. Now when it comes to the installation of this hitch, it is definitely not the easiest one out there and if you're not really mechanically inclined, this might be a video you wanna watch to really decide if this is something that you want to do.
