Dr Joshua Hamey is a MACSYS Research Fellow at UNSW in Sydney. Josh is a molecular biologist who studies proteins and how they are made inside cells. He uses mass spectrometry-based proteomics and classic molecular biology techniques to answer foundational questions about proteins and their regulation by post-translational modifications, including phosphorylation and methylation. He is particularly interested in understanding how protein synthesis is controlled inside cells, and how its dysregulation leads to faulty protein production.
