From stunning waterfalls and peaceful Lake Michigan beaches to incredible Lake Superior views, this trip showed us why the UP is one of the best travel destinations in Michigan.

We made a scenic stop at Grand Island Harbor Scenic Turnout, wandered through the beautiful Wagner Falls, and experienced the calm, crystal-clear waters of Kitch-Iti-Kipi (Big Spring)—one of the most serene places we’ve ever visited. We also had Peninsula Point Lighthouse completely to ourselves, where I touched the waters of Lake Michigan for the very first time. One of the biggest surprises of the trip was Laughing Whitefish Falls, a massive and powerful waterfall that was totally unexpected. We ended with breathtaking views at the Sugarloaf Mountain Observation Deck, overlooking Lake Superior.

Of course, no UP trip is complete without great food and drinks! We ate at some local favorites including The Bear Trap, Toby’s Dog House, Portside Inn, and Driftwood Deli, and enjoyed beers at By George Brewing Company. Every stop on this trip was dog friendly, making it the perfect adventure for travelers who don’t want to leave their pups behind.
