In the later period of his life Murray Bookchin incorporated social ecology into a new political programme that based itself on traditional forms of democracy in cities, towns and neighbourhoods, known as libertarian municipalism (communalism). He discusses the history of anarchism, his attempt to unify the principles of anarchism, Marxism and Socialism into an organised political programme. In discussing this, he also criticises the aversion to organisation & coherence by individualist (proudhonian & postmodernist) anarchists he encountered in the US & Europe throughout the latter part of the 20th century.
