Demon Slayer anime has garnered so much attention over the years? It's because of the amazing eye-catching animation and beautiful OSTs that flow every well with each other. The fast-paced story and establishment of characters also add to its incredible run during late September 2019. With Season 1 finished and a movie centered around the Mugen Train Arc, we thought we'd unveil our Top 5 Most Interesting facts you should know before watching the movie.
Tanjiro's Voice Actor was Popular for Doing Sad Roles.
Natsuki Hanae is a semi-popular voice actor in Japan who's most well known for voicing sad male characters. Tanjiro was his very first shounen lead, and Hanae said he had a lot of fun voicing him, especially since Tanjiro allowed him to test his vocal range and abilities a lot more than his usual crop of characters. Akari Kito, the voice actress of Nezuko, likened to him a big brother and said that he behaves with her exactly how Tanjiro is with Nezuko on screen. It all makes perfect sense now since Tanjiro is such a kind-hearted and emphatic character who even gives his respect to demons once he defeats them. It's one good thing to be a thoughtful person but Tanjiro seems to be emotionally manipulated easily on the battlefield which hasn't worked well in his favour.
The Origin of the Nichirin Blades
Their namesake contains the kanji for "sun" (日 nichi?), "ring" (輪 rin?), which could translate to either "sun ring" or its most common meaning, "sun." In addition to the kanji for "blade" (刀 tō?), the full translation to the Nichirin Blade is "sun blade." The ore used to forge the swords are likely based off of Hihi'irokane, which literally means (Brilliant Scarlet Metal), a legendary metal of Japanese myth that shines brightly in a manner that it resembles flames or the sun. The metal is considered to be similar to other mythical ores such as Orichalcum of Greek and Roman myth and as such is said to have had magical properties. Is it also cool to mention that the Nichirin "Blades" don't actually have to be swords?
Although it the literal translation has just mentioned them being known as "sun blades", the weapon absorbs sunlight in order to kill the demons. Well, if you really wanted to, you could use a Nichirin spoon or Nichirin pencil, as long as the job gets done right? A perfect example of this is the rock pillar, Gyomei Himejima's weapon. The blind monk uses an ax and chain ball weapon that seem to kill demons. So, we can only assume he had those specifically crafted for him.
Curse of the Ubuyashiki Family
With the introduction of Kagaya Ubuyashiki during the Pillar's meeting, we are shown a man with black shoulder length hair and a purple curse mark running down his face, slowly killing him. Kagaya Ubuyashiki has implied that the Ubuyashiki family are descendants of Muzan's original blood relatives, who, due to the family having birthed the original Demon, were cursed with an unknown incurable recessive genetic disease that has killed each and every family member—both past and present—before they could reach the age of thirty. Isn't that terrifying? Has it also been mentioned that Kagaya is the 97th Leader of the Demon Slayer Corps? Wow, the setting for the story really does come a long way.
Special Demon Slayer Day for Fans
You heard that right! Muzan's full name, Muzan Kitsubuji contains the kanji for "demon dance" (鬼舞辻 kibutsuji?) and "miserable, pitiful, merciless" (無惨 muzan?). Yet it also harbours another meaning. By using a play on words, Muzan's name translates to six (六 mu?) and three (三 san?), hence, the official Kimetsu no Yaiba Twitter account refers to June 3 as "Muzan Day. Isn't that convenient? On this day, fans gather around on social media to appreciate the genius that is Muzan Kitsubuji and show off their greatest moonwalks! I mean, when you first saw Muzan, didn't you think that he was Michael Jackson? We sure as well did. Hehe!
