The 1988 Football Championship saw once again Cork emerge from Munster having mastered the masters, Kerry.
In Ulster, Monaghan proved their worth by beating Tyrone in the Ulster Final, and in the West, Mayo proved their supremacy.
1987 All-Ireland Champions, Meath were once again successful in Leinster. However on the 18th Setember, Meath got a fright when Cork almost took the new Sam Maguire back to Leeside. It was only a single point that clinched it for Meath in the replay.
This video traces the 1988 Football Championship, as covered by the RTE "Sunday Game" outside broadcast cameras.
