Budunge Ama Dharme | බුදුන්ගේ අමා ධර් මේ | | Remake | Master Mohideen Baig
Artist Note
====
This contemporary rendition draws profound inspiration from the timeless masterwork originally crafted by the legendary Gunarathna Abeysekara and Mohideen Baig. Their original composition stands as an enduring masterpiece that continues to resonate across generations, weaving Buddhist philosophy into the very fabric of Sri Lankan musical heritage.
This remake serves as my humble tribute to these creative visionaries who possessed the extraordinary ability to translate the deepest Dhamma insights into accessible, soul-stirring melodies. Through their artistry, they brought the Buddha's profound teachings to countless hearts and minds, making the path of enlightenment tangible for ordinary seekers walking the journey of life.
We honor these legends who walked before us, lighting the way for spiritual understanding through the universal language of music. Their legacy reminds us that true art transcends entertainment—it becomes a vessel for wisdom, a bridge between the sacred and the everyday.
The Journey of Understanding
The song opens with a simple truth: "බුදුන්ගේ අමා ධර්මේ නොතේරී" (Not understanding the Buddha's precious teachings). This line asks us - do we truly understand what the Buddha taught, or are we just going through the motions?
When the lyrics speak of "වෙලීලා බැඳී ප්රේමේ විනාසේ වුණා" (being bound by Thanha and facing destruction), they're showing us how our attachments become our chains. Think about something you desperately wanted - when you couldn't have it, didn't you suffer?
The beautiful imagery of "මලේහි වසා බඹරා උරා රොන් ගනීවි" (the bee dwelling in the flower, drinking nectar) paints a picture we can all relate to. We're like that bee, finding sweetness in worldly things. But notice what happens - "එයින් ඌ පලා ගිය දා මැරී මල් හැලේවී" (when it flies away, both bee and flower perish). This is us clinging to temporary happiness.
The line "අස්ථිර වේ ජීවේ තණ අගේ පිනි සේ" (life is unstable like dewdrops on grass) reminds us that everything passes. Your troubles, your joys, your relationships - all temporary.
"සොයාලා බැලූවොතින් පෙනේ මේ මනා සේ" (if you search and look, this becomes clear) - the song encourages us to open our eyes and really see the patterns in our own lives. Where are you seeking permanent happiness in impermanent things?
Let these simple truths guide you toward inner peace.
