Baxter State Park is wild, rugged, and home to Maine’s tallest peak—Mount Katahdin. This park isn’t like your typical state park—there are no paved roads, no cell service, and no guarantees you’ll even get in if you didn’t plan ahead.
We arrived at 3:30 AM, hoping to snag a parking spot to take on Knife’s Edge, one of the most legendary and exposed ridge trails in the U.S.
Our hike took us up the Helon Taylor Trail, across the Knife’s Edge, and finally to Baxter Peak, the official northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail. From there, we descended via the Saddle Trail before heading to Sandy Stream Pond to try to spot a moose.
We wrapped up our time in Baxter with a four-hour drive along Park Tote Road, soaking in some of the most untouched wilderness on the East Coast.
And while we didn’t see a moose this time… our luck is about to change in the next video. Stay tuned!
📍 Key Highlights:
Helon Taylor Trail → Pamola Peak → Knife’s Edge → Mount Katahdin
Hiking the final stretch of the Appalachian Trail
Descending via the Saddle Trail & visiting Chimney Pond
Moose-spotting at Sandy Stream Pond (spoiler: no moose)
Driving the 47-mile Park Tote Road through Baxter’s remote wilderness
🔥 WATCH NEXT: Our next adventure takes us to New Hampshire… where we finally find a moose. 🫎
