What is serging?
Serging is the process of wrapping the edge of a rug with continuous yarn stitching to create a clean, finished look and prevent fraying. It’s both functional and decorative, and is often used on custom rugs.
How it’s done:
Most serging is completed with a specialized machine that quickly stitches along the straight edges of a rug. This method is efficient and ideal for most standard shapes.
However, for rugs with corners—especially inside corners on custom shaped rugs —the machine can’t turn those tight angles. In these cases, the corners must be finished by hand, which is a slower and more meticulous process and it takes more time and skill.
