With the lack of access to the London Underground, Croydon can appear to be a relatively disconnected part of the capital. As is made very clear if one looks at the iconic London Underground map - which also includes National Rail, Overground and Tram connections - one can clearly see that other areas of London have more public transport options.
The north of the city, for example, is covered in Tube lines. In Croydon, though, residents have to make do with buses - with a new Superloop service to and from Bromley being introduced last week - the Overground, Trams and National Rail.
However, the borough was at the epicentre of the beginning of the railways in Britain, and therefore the world in 1803. The Surrey Iron Railway (SIR) is often credited with being the first public railway line.
