GW2 - Free FPS or not? Testing the nVidia "Smooth Motion" / Frame Generation

The latest nVidia driver 581.08 enables the NVIDIA Smooth Motion support for GeForce RTX 40 Series GPUs.
So basically, if you have a 40 or 50 Series GPU, you can enable the Smooth Motion on a driver level for games that do not support Frame Generation.
So this is basically a 2x Frame Generation for older games.

What this technology does is that it generates fake frames in order to smoothen the game, or as nVidia likes to say to increases the FPS :)

When you look at my video, you will see the real FPS generated by the game inside the GW2 UI.
Right next to it, in the MSI Afterburner overlay, you will see the FPS that is being doubled by the Smooth Motion.

The Smooth Motion / Frame Gen. technology comes with the penalty of increased input latency and image instability.
Here in GW2, I am not feeling the increase in input latency at all.
GW2 is not a competitive shooter so I do not really feel any latency.
On the other hand, the image instability is sometimes there.

If you check my third timestamp, this is when I felt some lagging and image was distorted.
I do not know if you will see it here on YT, but I could definitely see it and feel it.
Outside of that 20-ish seconds period, I had no issues for the rest of the fight.
So this technology is not really a free fps, but it is quite good.

There is one more important point to add here. My system is pretty much high end.
The CPU is the best gaming CPU that you can get.
On a lower end CPU's and systems, the Smooth Motion tech may not work well at all.
It can even downgrade your experience. So it is best if you try it on your own, and see if it works for you or not.
