The Wilderness Center, East Iceland

Описание: We travelled back to the old times in Iceland and went deep into the wilderness where we met with Denni Karlsson the founder of the Wilderness Center. He gave us an insight into how people lived in the old days.

Privacy had a different meaning at that time. 🧐

The Óbyggðasetur Íslands / Wilderness Center is an authentic and peaceful hideaway, located right by the edge of Northern Europe’s biggest wilderness.

At the Wilderness Center our guests experience the spirit of the past through a variety of services: unique accommodation, local food, exhibitions, horse riding and hiking, day tours, escorted tours and tailor-made tours.

As soon as visitors park their cars and cross the old wooden bridge, they step into an adventure into the past.

Every detail at the premises is designed to make the visitor feel as if they are taking part in this adventure.

The buildings, interior decorations, food, activities, and hosts all play a vital role in this experience.

The accommodation is in delightfully renovated and preserved old buildings – which may make visitors feel they are “sleeping in a museum.”

They make all their food in the old kitchen in front of our guests and the emphasis is on local ingredients – just like grandmas.

Whether you visit them to go riding or hiking, they will take their guests along the glacial river Jökulsá í Fljótsdal which boasts 15 magnificent waterfalls.

The Wilderness Center is run by Arna and Denni. Arna has a degree in history and a qualification in culture and communication, while Denni is a filmmaker and an experienced guide.

They have extensive experience in cultural communication in museums, TV, documentaries, etc.

They also have lots of experience as tour guides, mainly in the Icelandic wilderness north of the Vatnajökull glacier.

Both are country people at heart, who love Icelandic nature, culture, and history – and have a passion for sharing their knowledge with their guests.
