Comparison between my custom object tracking and counting algorithm (Left) with DeepSORT a DNN based tracking algorithm (Right). Object detection is done using YOLOv3 tiny. Clearly for this use case, my custom algorithm gives a better results as it handles occlusions and re-entry of same object into frames better. This demonstrated advantages of specialized algorithms for specific use cases than a generic algorithm designed to work on multiple different use cases.
