Mountain bikers on alert after news of cougar attack in Olympic National Park

Описание: A four-year-old child has now been discharged from Harborview Medical Center after a mountain lion attack over the weekend. Local parks like Duthie Mountain Bike Park in Sammamish are also seeing an increase in sightings for the big cats, prompting trail users to be wary.

There are signs with big red letters at the park, airing caution to bike riders after multiple sightings in just the month of July alone, some of them documented on the park's Facebook page by locals.

"I mean I hadn't seen cougar signs up here before but so that was a bit of a shock," Ian Monroe told KOMO news, as he and his children and their friends were out enjoying some biking trails Tuesday afternoon. "So yeah, probably the first run through the woods I was kind of looking a little bit more" he added.

It all comes after a cougar bit a young child on July 20, near the Victoria Overlook area on Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park, according to the National Park's Service.

"I mean I feel awful for the family," said Monroe, after hearing about the incident.
