Oval House is a contemporary residence located within a gated neighborhood, defined by a striking contrast between its exterior and interior. From the street, the home presents itself as a solid, geometric concrete volume—rigid, protective, and intentionally closed. Inside, however, the architecture unfolds into an organic and fluid spatial experience centered around a hidden oval courtyard.
Designed in a U-shaped configuration, the house replaces traditional corridors with experiential transitions. A semi-covered entrance guides residents into a dramatic double-height living space, seamlessly integrated with the kitchen and dining areas. These social spaces open directly onto the oval patio, establishing a strong visual and environmental connection between interior and exterior.
On the upper level, private areas are divided into two distinct wings overlooking the central void. The master suite occupies one side, while the children’s bedrooms are positioned on the opposite wing, ensuring privacy while maintaining a sense of unity through the shared courtyard.
Environmental performance is a core aspect of the design. The house is carefully oriented to optimize natural light, cross ventilation, and solar control. Aluminum sunshades respond differently to each façade—opaque and protective on the front, open and adaptable toward the rear—allowing the home to balance privacy, comfort, and climate responsiveness.
Materiality defines the architectural identity. Exposed concrete structures the entire house, while Tundra Grey marble grounds the main level with a sense of elegance and permanence. Upstairs, oak flooring introduces warmth and tactility, contrasting with the mineral palette below. Skylights bring daylight into the basement spaces, transforming them into livable, breathable environments rather than secondary areas.
The project explores the plasticity of concrete through continuous curves, applied consistently from the overall form down to precise architectural intersections. Every piece of furniture and material selection was custom-designed by the studio, reinforcing a cohesive architectural language where structure, space, and detail operate as one.
