Opening on the Philadelphia Art Museum over the Schuylkill River, Philadelphia in Motion attempts to capture on film some of the iconic landmarks that make this city as unique, historic, and visually striking as it is.

Some of the landmarks included are Drexel University, Philadelphia City Hall, Schuylkill River, One Liberty Place, the Comcast Center, and William Penn statue.

What stands out about this video, though, is the way I’ve tried to capture the dynamism and ever-changing nature of the city through still photography. This video watches Philadelphia as it moves by turning almost 10,000 photographs into a unique stop-motion video of the city at work.

This technique is what makes this one of my favorite videos of my city. I feel like the style manages to capture the energy, the excitement, the uniqueness, and the mix of old and new that defines the City of Brotherly Love.

As you watch, seasons pass, lights turn on and off, the sun sets, the moon rises, cars come and go, and the people of the city rush towards work and play. Shot from a variety of angles, you get to see the city like you’ve never seen it before: moving, colorful, thrilling, alive.
