Описание: Jean Harlow gets a kick to her rear for her trouble in trying to convince Wallace Beery to do the right thing in the film Dinner at Eight (1933), before then creating the film's most famous scene with Marie Dressler. "I was reading a book the other day," chirrups Harlow as Dressler looks stunned. "It's all about civilization, a nutty kind. Do you know that the guy said that machinery is going to take the place of every profession?" I shan't reveal Dressler's superb quip, but the scene itself is astonishingly - and worryingly - prevalent in this day and age. But while her book predicts mass unemployment by machinery, sadly neither woman lived long enough to see it. Dressler died of cancer just a year later in 1934, aged 65, whilst Harlow died in 1937 of kidney failure, aged just 26.
