On March 7, 2024. An officer from the Muskego Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle after he observed the front license plate to be unreadable as the paint had completely worn off. The officer stated the following in his report.
“I observed the driver to have a rigid posture with his hands at the "10 and 2" position. I also observed the male to be leaned back with his head mostly behind the B-pillar of the vehicle. This behavior is typical of drivers attempting to hide their face. As I was following the Ford, I observed the driver side mirror to have no reflective glass on it.”
The officer approached the driver (Paul) from the passenger side of the vehicle due to heavy traffic. Paul rolled down the window approximately 1-2 inches. The officer introduced himself, and explained the reasoning for the traffic stop. Paul stated that he did not have any identification or insurance. The officer returned to his squad to conduct a records check and dispatch advised that Paul had an active warrant. Paul then exited his vehicle, locking the keys inside. Other officers arrived, and Paul was placed in handcuffs for the warrant, and secured in the back of a squad car. A K9 was requested to conduct an open air sniff based on reasonable suspicion of criminal activity. The K9 Officer advised that there was probable cause to search the vehicle. A female arrived and said that Paul was her boyfriend. She asked if she would be able to take the vehicle but appeared to be very jittery, and an officer checked her eyes to see if she was ok to drive. The officer determined that she was not sober but allowed her father who was also on scene to take the vehicle after the traffic stop was over. Paul was transported to jail for the warrant and to be booked on multiple new charges. A search of the vehicle revealed 95 individually wrapped plastic baggies and tinfoil containing a white powdery substance which tested positive for fentanyl and heroin, brass knuckles, 4 knives, and other contraband. Paul was found guilty for Possession of Narcotic Drugs, and Carrying a Concealed Knife. He was sentenced to 18 months in jail, 3 years of probation, and ordered to pay $976 in fines.
