In this video, I will describe the importance of thinning and best time to practice thinning activity in cotton field. Following are some benefits of cotton plants thinning;
1) Healthy growth and development of plants
2) No fertilizers or nutrients losses
3) Less fungal disease attack
4) Less whitefly pest attack
5) Control of pests is easy in field
These are some advantages which can only be achieved in fields after plants thinning.
Optimum plants population or spacing is a basic key of cotton crop success. Planting geometry which is maintained in cotton field is;
Plant to plant = 1 ft.
Row to row = 2.5 ft.
Plant thinning activity is practiced in cotton field at the age of 20 to 25 days. White fly infestation is less in cotton fields with optimum spacing as compared to thick populated crop. Thinning is an example of good agriculture practice in cotton crop. Cotton growers can get high yield from Cotton crop by adopting this type of best agronomic practices.
