With this new ruling, the Twitter lawsuit has become the first federal lawsuit to proceed against a social media company for its failure to report child sexual abuse material (CSAM, a.k.a. “child pornography”) and for the harm to children it caused by this negligence. The vast majority of cases against social media companies are thrown out before they can even get started, due to Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act.
