Tinikling is a traditional Filipino folk dance that involves dancers skillfully stepping between and over two bamboo poles that are rhythmically clapped together on the ground. Tinikling originated during the Spanish colonial period in the Philippines, believed to have developed as a form of resistance or expression by Filipino peasants working under harsh conditions. The dance imitates the movements of the tikling bird as it dodges bamboo traps set by farmers in the rice fields. Over time, tinikling evolved into a celebrated cultural performance that showcases Filipino resilience and community spirit.
