Here are three bowls of water. The bowl in the center is at room temperature of about 72 degrees Fahrenheit. The bowl, on the left, was chilled in the refrigerator. The bowl on the right is hot tap water. It important not to have water too hot. Stick your hand in the room temperature water. The water feels cold even though it is the same temperature as the air. This is because water conducts heat more efficiency than air. After a while, the water does not feel cold any more. The hand is put in the cold water. The cold water is making my hand cramp a little. When the hand is placed back into the room temperature water the water now feels warm. When the hand is placed from the room temperature water to the hot water, it almost feels like the hand is burning. The hand is placed back into the room temperature water and the water feels cool again.
On your own:
What happens when one hand is placed in the hot water and the other in the cold water, then both hands are moved to the room temperature water? Feel free use the comments section to post your results or make your own video about your experiment.
