A top Chinese official is on a 6-day trip to Russia and Belarus amid spiralling tensions with the West over the ongoing invasion of Ukraine. Chinese Defence Minister Li Shangfu is on a state visit to the two countries from August 14 to 19. He will address the Moscow Conference on International Security and meet defence leaders from Russia and other nations. During his visit to Belarus, Shangfu will meet President Lukashenko and military leaders and will also visit military departments. Shangfu’s trip to Belarus will be the first visit by a Chinese defence minister in five years.
