This film delves into the recently released Proxxon Micro Sonic Cutter (MSC), reference 27300.

I agreed with Proxxon that we should get this video out early as a bit of a channel world exclusive because the tool has only just launched. Full disclosure, they sent it to me free but allowed me to review it as I saw fit and this isn’t a paid promotion. I am a massive fan of Proxxon, having used a lot of their tools for DIY and car maintenance for a number of years. I mention this because this is not a cheap tool, retailing around 400 euros.

Can a tool be worth that and how does it justify the cost? Well, it uses innovative technology with a power source vibrating a scalpel blade (or a saw/chisel/scraper attachment) a few micrometers each stroke, between 35 and 45,000 times a second. This helps your tasks and cutting in a variety of materials and makes it effortless and clean, with neat precise cuts. It generates a little amount of heat via friction and emits occasional squeaks and squeals.

There are other market competitors but none of them are especially cheap, with this one you get the peace of mind knowing it is made and developed by Proxxon, well-known for their high-quality tools and customer service/support.

You decide if this innovative tech is going to revolutionise our hobby or if it is just a costly gimmick.

I think you will see a lot more modellers using these, but you make up your own mind.
