Mexican-American baseball flourished in Southern California from the early 1900s to the 1970s. Baseball leagues helped create cohesive and vibrant communities. The games became a place for meetings across the region and were integral to discussion and eventually to political organization within communities.
The Latino Baseball History Project, which is based at CSUSB, has worked to document information and preserve artifacts related to the history of Latino softball and baseball, with a special emphasis on Mexican American baseball throughout the nation.
The project came out of an exhibition entitled 'Mexican-American Baseball in Los Angeles: From the Barrios to the Big Leagues' and was a collaborative event developed by the Baseball Reliquary, a Pasadena based nonprofit organization, and the John F. Kennedy Memorial Library.
The project moved to CSU, San Bernardino in 2008 and was renamed. It has grown exponential to encompass not only Los Angeles and Southern California but the nation.
CSUSB would love members of the community to be part of this project as a member, volunteer, donor and/or contributor. You can also stop by to see the exhibition of recent additions to the collection by visiting the Pfau Library at CSUSB on the 4th floor.
If you know of someone who played, coached, or has a collection of baseball memorabilia they would love to talk to you. For more details visit: http://library.csusb.edu/SpecialColle...
