This is a rare studio outing for the trio of Herbie Hancock, Jaco Pastorius and Harvey Mason. Herbie's 'Mr Hands' album was a mixture of new material and tracks culled from previous recording sessions. I believe this track was recorded specifically for the album - it features virtuosic playing from all of the trio and a beautiful Rhodes tone from Herbie. I've always preferred the feel and tone of Paul Jackson's playing but Jaco's playing is very impressive on this track. Even though it gets worked up, it doesn't leave the listener prepared for the fierce assault on their senses that the next track on the album brings; 'Shiftless Shuffle' was taken from the 1973 Headhunters sessions and is a high octane tour-de-force from the Headhunters themselves (Paul Jackson back in the bass seat and Bill Summers, Bennie Maupin involved).
