Here is a comparison of the start up flow to the Mathmos and Blob lamps. The video was recorded over 2.5hrs long and have speeded it up 1000x for a shorter faster video.
As you can see, the Blob does take longer to warm up than the Mathmos lamps - The Blob lamp also produces a smoother consitant flow and does not show signs of over heating like the Mathmos do after being run for more than 4-6 hours.
I like my Mathmos lamps however, I wouldnt say no to owning a few more of the Blob range - As you can see, they do fit nicely standing together due to the shape of the Big Blob lamp which is very similar looking to the Mathmos Fluidium Lamp.
