This is one of the few regional trains in Stockholm still served by trains with locos only - X40 services - if they even exist - are very rare on this line. Uppsalapendeln is the only train between Uppsala and Stockholm that avoids Arlandabanan and uses the old route via Märsta.
Swedish railways uses a lot of multiple unit trains. Beside all SJ InterCity and Night services, there are only a few SJ Regional services left using classic train consists with a loco. Unlike the newer X40 or Bombardier Regina, these trains do not have an automated announcement for the next station.
There are three control cars, being rebuilt from normal coaches. These have been built for Uppsalapendeln, but for some strange reason, they don't run on Uppsalapendeln anymore and are instead used on some SJ Regional rush hour trains around Stockholm.
