PAWS for thought. Progress Aero Works 80 - .8cc Model Diesel Engine
This is the first PAW 80 I have started since 1982. It brought back some memories. Which I share here.
Here is one of the very first PAW 80 engines. The early ones have no indication of the size. Some time later the PAW 100 appeared and as they both looked identical ‘80’ or ‘100’ was etched in the back plate. I used to have a Boddington /Smeed Santa Maria with proportional radio control on rudder elevator and a fix throttle PAW just like this. I flew that plane for hours and hours. I built 3 Santa Maria aircraft but the last one fitted with an Enya 09 was written off on the maiden flight. The 09 was too much for it. I would probably be able to fly it now a days, but back then I was learning RC and totally surprised by the speed of the model with an Enya 09. It flew very well on the PAW 80. The 09 was fixed throttle to so I could not dial it back. Vic Smeed designed the Santa Maria for single channel and later David Boddington re drew it with a 3 D fuselage and it became the only model plane know of where David Boddington and Vic Smeed are credited as the designers of the aircraft. Both illustrious designers on one model. If you looking for something fun and quick to build for a 80 or 100 PAW engine look up the Santa Maria. It was a FREE PLAN in Aeromodeller. It does the most amazing Flat Spins. Thanks for watching.
